Moebius Squared

We're getting down to the end of the wait for Moebius Squared, which will be out in three weeks. So it's time for the character game! You pick somebody, and I'll give you a snippet with them in it. But! This is complicated because there are two of some of them. We have the original AU team, Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c, and the immediately post-Continuum team, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c, Cam and Vala. We also have Carolyn, non-AU Jack, and Landry. So fire away!

Cam! I'm kind of crazy about Cam myself. So here's a nice little piece as SG-1 does this crazy time travel thing again...

"Everybody be ready for trouble," Cam counseled. "Daniel says there may be hostiles."

"We are ready," Teal'c said. He dropped back to be the last through the gate as the wormhole exploded in a blue khawoosh.

"Right." Cam took point and plunged through the event horizon, hoping for one fleeting second that Carter absolutely, positively knew what she was doing and they weren't going to emerge under a ton of sand or in a crevasse in Antarctica.

There was a moment's disorientation, the swooping sensation of wormhole travel, only it seemed to go on longer than it ought to, longer and longer. He was just on the point of deciding that something had gone badly wrong when suddenly he was out, stumbling through under a star studded night sky, the gate in a plaza lit around by torches.

He stopped, and there was a soft ooof as Vala plowed into his back. "Would you mind clearing the place where other people have to step?" she said.

He took a step forward, raising his hands slowly. "Sorry," he said. "I think we've got a problem."

Daniel, then Carter, then Teal'c emerged, looking around with the same wonderment that Cam felt, wonderment and dread. Ahead of them the great pyramids at Giza loomed against the bright night sky, tips capped with shining stone or metal, while about them a bunch of low buildings clustered alive with lights. The Stargate stood in a wide courtyard well lit with a hundred torches, and there were about a hundred guys covering them, some of them with zats, some of them behind barricades.

A young man in a white kilt that came to his knees stood up behind one of the barricades, gold bracelets on his upper arms like emblems of rank, and called out to them in what was clearly an official tone of voice.

"What did he say?" Cam asked Daniel quietly.

"He said drop your weapons or die."

Moebius Squared
Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to reading Moebius Squared. Do you have a firm date for the ebook release yet?

Re: Moebius Squared
Not yet. It's at MGM for the final sign off. So I think it will be in the next two weeks, but I can't tell you a date. I'll post as soon as I know!

Hmm, just to be difficult, how about Laura Cadman, since you've already said there's a brief glimpse of her? By the way, is it the e-book, the physical book or both versions that will be out in three weeks? Very much looking forward to it in any case :)

Tiny glimpse! Cadman's only in one scene at the very end. The ebook will be out in about three weeks, as soon as MGM approves. The paper book will be about two weeks longer as it has to print.

Sam came to parade rest without thinking about it, her expression attentive and bland as the Secretary began her speech. Her eyes roved over the smooth lines of the Hammond's bow, over the crew assembled in perfect order, Major Franklin barbered within an inch of his life, his flight suit ironed to sharp creases, Lieutenants Chandler and Wright, Davies and Ikram, and behind them with the Marine detachment a flash of red-gold, Captain Cadman's hair severely coiled beneath her beret. Her new team.

She'd come full circle. She was forty-one, the colonel who'd seen it all and done it all, all the way around the circle until she stood in Jack's shoes, ready to begin again. The universe has symmetry, if only you can stand far enough back to see it.

Any chance of post-Continuum Daniel AND Vala?
If not, then how 'bout anything you're particularly fond of.

Post-Continuum Daniel for you!

“I think you’d better tell me that anyway,” Daniel said.

“I can make it very difficult for you,” Anise answered.

Daniel paused. “I don’t want to be unduly negative, but I don’t think you have very much to bargain with. Yes, you may be able to delay my finding out what’s going on, but eventually I’m going to get what I want. And you’ll just have annoyed the rest of the High Council even more, as well as jeopardized what’s left of your alliance with the Tau’ri — which, by the way, you need more than we do right now — for nothing.”

There was a little silence, and finally Anise looked away. It was Freya who spoke then. “We will cooperate.”

“Good,” Daniel said.

Ok! AU Teal'c for you...

Teal’c waited, resting his hands on his knees, letting the silence build, but the first stages of kelnorim did not rise to envelop him. Unworthily, his first thought was to blame Danyel Jackson, but the human was astonishingly still and silent. He was not the problem, Teal’c admitted. He had achieved kelnorim under far more difficult conditions, on the eve of battle and on Apophis’s ships, and he knew this was the result of a troubled spirit. And the only remedy for that was to purge himself of the concern that weighed him down. “Tell me of Shau’nac,” he said.

Danyel lifted his head. The flame of the lamps was between them, hiding his expression. “What about her?”

“You said that in your time, I married Drey’auc,” Teal’c said. “And she bore me a son who lived to be a man and a leader of our people. I knew Drey’auc in my time, and would have called it an honor to be her husband. But Shau’nac —” His voice was no longer steady, and he paused until he was sure he had it under control “I would have gone on bended knee to Shau’nac, for she was brave and beautiful and wise beyond her years. But she chose to serve in the temple, and then Amaunet chose her for a host, when her own host was injured beyond saving while they visited Chulak. It was an honor unprecedented.”

Danyel gave a bitter smile. “Amaunet. Yes. An honor indeed.”

Vala for you! It's hard to find a Vala piece that's not horribly spoilery....

Either one was going to be close to impossible, Cam thought. Brute force was definitely out of the question, with all the Jaffa around. What they really needed was —

“I have a clever plan,” Vala said. “I can pass myself off as a minor Goa’uld, get us into the palace that way.”

She had been a host, Cam thought. There was still naqadah in her blood, it might work, at least long enough to get them in. But she wouldn’t pass if they came face to face with Ra, or any other Goa’uld.

“You just want to get your hands on some of the jewelry,” Daniel said.

“It’s very pretty,” Vala agreed, and bestowed her best smile on the queen, who looked distinctly unimpressed.

“She isn’t Goa’uld,” Danyel translated. “Even the Lady can see it.”

Do the two Daniels interact at some point?

They do! Which is confusing, so we have Daniel (from our timeline) and Danyel (pronounced the way they do there who is the AU Daniel) so that the reader can tell which one is talking! It would be easier on screen, as you'd just look at Michael Shanks with two different haircuts! So here is Danyel, lending clothes to Daniel and Cam for a disguise. I kind of love this scene.

"Are you sure it's supposed to look like this?" Cam said for the fourth time. Danyel's shenti was a little short on him, a couple of inches above the knee. On Cam it looked like he was wearing a towel around his waist and nothing else.

"You look fine," Danyel said absently, hunting in a chest for sandals. Daniel supposed this must be his bedroom, though the low carved bed with its tufted wool mattress looked big enough for a small army.

"I'm kind of..." Cam gestured to his chest. "…bare."

"Vala will like it," Daniel said. His own shenti at least fit. And he was a little more used to the idea of wearing one. No, they hadn't worn them on Abydos, but at least the concept was familiar.

Danyel handed over a pair of worn leather flip flops. "These are going to have to do. They're too big for me, but they'll probably fit you."

"Thanks," Cam said dubiously. "How the hell are we supposed to fight our way in and out of stuff in flip flops?"

"You get used to them," Danyel assured him.

Daniel shrugged. "I see teenagers at home skateboarding in them."

"I'm not a teenager," Cam said. He tugged the shenti down a little further. "Let's go."

snippet of Daniel? Please??
I'm practically drooling in anticipation for another Stargate novel. It's so hard to wait for them. Brought a kindle recently so that I can get them a little sooner than the hard copy - but it's still so hard to wait. Any firm release dates yet???

Re: snippet of Daniel? Please??
For you, double Daniel!

“I think you should come back,” Daniel said. “All of you.”

“I’m already there,” Danyel pointed out. “Or — you know what I mean.”

Daniel nodded. “And I say this without false modesty, two of us would be useful. As would two of Sam, and Teal’c —”

“Teal’c can’t come,” Danyel said. “Egeria needs him.” He smiled then, not entirely pleasantly. “And what about Jack? One retired colonel, one active-service general — that’s a bit awkward, don’t you think?”

“We’ve done weirder,” Daniel said, thinking of Jack’s teen-aged clone, and Danyel nodded.
