Alma/Gil/Jerry

I've had quite a few interesting comments about the relationship between Alma/Gil/Jerry in Lost Things and Steel Blues. So what do you guys think? Comments? Thoughts? Speculations? Any thoughts on their pasts or futures? What would you like to see happen with Jerry in the future?

I'd like to see Jerry find someone of his own. Even if Louis is interested, and if you've been hinting at that it's snuck by me, it would be mirroring the relationship with Gil too closely. That would be an emotional disaster for all of them.

Yeah, Lewis isn't interested in Jerry. Lewis is very straight, and it's kind of baffling to him. You're right that would be an emotional disaster.

Jerry will find someone -- that's part of what we're working on now in the fourth book, Wind Raker -- Jerry's first serious relationship since Gil. (He has a little fling in Silver Bullet, but it's not serious.) But of course there are obstacles! Jerry couldn't possibly pick someone simple!

Now I'm embarrassed, misspelling the name of my favorite character. Oops.

There's a story behind the spelling of Lewis's name. He's named for a grandfather, and he really should be Luis. But his mother wanted to Anglicize it to make him "more American." And so she went to the very British Lewis, not even Louis. He's not really sure how he feels about that. But it's his name.

I hope Jerry finds someone in the future, but I really love the whole dynamic of what the three of them had. I love it so much I've started playing with it in my own universes. (one Squire's Isle couple invited a third woman into their relationship :D) So yeah, it was uniquely done in that I found it very natural, the way it was presented. Not "this is something odd and out of the ordinary," just... "this is what worked for us."

It worked really well for them. Alma, Gil and Jerry was pretty extraordinary!

And with so much potential for angst and drama, it was terrific to see it go in another direction. Unique and beautiful (and sexy! ;D)

Yes, instead of having jealousy and anger, they make this something beautiful!
