August Update

My big news this month is that The Emperor's Agent is out! The ebook came out day before yesterday, and starting August 9 The Emperor's Agent will be a Barnes & Noble Nook First recommended book! I'm delighted that B&N will be featuring my work in the month of August.

So why should you read this book? You've never seen a character like Elza. There are plenty of male leads in fiction who are Tricksters -- Captain Jack Sparrow, Indiana Jones, James Bond -- but almost no women. Elza is the Trickster: courtesan, medium and spy. The Emperor's Agent is the story of how she begins her career in espionage. Or, as Napoleon says, "you make an ideal agent, clever, loyal, equally capable in the ballroom or the battlefield. A pretty woman who is not afraid to kill.” One eyebrow rose. “Perhaps a clairvoyant, if the rumors are to be believed.” Go meet Elza. You'll be glad you did.

I also have two more books coming out this year, for a total of five in 2013. November 1 Cythera will be released by Supposed Crimes LLC. Cythera is an erotic science fiction novel with a bisexual main character, an unexpectedly complicated meditation on love and war. Much more about this as we get closer!

November 15 will be the debut for Silver Bullet, the third book in The Order of the Air, written with Melissa Scott. Jerry, Alma, Lewis, Mitch and Stasi are back in a race against time to stop a series of mysterious plane crashes in the Rockies, and to prevent a really bad guy from getting his hands on a mad science device invented by Nikola Tesla. Yes, this book has Tesla in it. No, he's (probably) not a vampire! Meanwhile, Jerry has made the discovery of a lifetime....

In terms of upcoming books after that, we're hoping that we will soon be working on the outline for two more Stargate Legacy books, Unascended and Endless. So keep your fingers crossed that it will come through!

Right now I'm working on Wind Raker, the fourth Order of the Air book which will be out next year. The team is going to Hawaii to test a new sea plane. Jerry is already in Hawaii with a dig, but an old enemy is back with new and even darker allies. Wind Raker is going to be awesome!

The third Elza book, The Marshal's Lover, is finished and ready for edits and will be out next year about this time from Crossroad Press. I'm very, very proud of it, and I hope you enjoy it.

I've got a couple of other proposals on the table, so there may be other books in 2014. Also, I've got an idea I haven't started yet for a sequel to Cythera, Cythera's Descent. Amy Griswold and I are still working on Blood and Shadows, an urban fantasy set (mostly) in 1980 in New York, with immortal Aphra Behn, Constantine Cavafy, and an unchained demon. Lastly, I've written the opening sections of another book set in the Age of Alexander, this one focusing on Thais and Berenice. That one's going to take a while, but I think it's a keeper.

So talk to me! What are you looking forward to? What do you have questions about?

I would say you need to read The General's Mistress before the Emperor's Agent, yes?

Preferably, but I'm hoping that people who find this book first will be able to jump in. (And hopefully that will be a lot of people!)
