I loved it!

I got it the day it came out and then didn't get the chance to read it until today, but that's okay, because it was totally worth the wait. I've been looking forward to this since that first post you made about it and it more than lived up to my expectations. I love the world (and would love to see more of it), I love Cythera (and would love to see more of her, both her past and future), I really liked all the other characters (and would love to see more of them)...I just really enjoyed it and would love more of everything, basically. Not that I wasn't satisfied with what we got, of course, I just would not at all mind more. :D

(I'd try to be more specific, but I finished the book less than an hour ago, so I'm still in the somewhat incoherent, "yes, good, I like this" stage.)

Also, it was really hot, so that's nice. ;)

I'm delighted! I've just read your comment about six times!

Cythera is so much fun, and I definitely plan to revisit her world. I think the next story is Serai's, or at least mainly her point of view. A different archetype, the young Athena. And we have to see Allegra's revenge, don't we? :D

Holy shit, yes please! Seriously, I love everything about this. Give me all the Serai and everything related to the Agni. :D

Oh, and I totally forgot to say this before, but I really, really, really appreciate that Cythera is in her thirties. I think I've said before how much I love the fact that you write about older characters and I especially loved it here. ♥

I'm glad that you like that Cythera is in her thirties. My goal was to write about the mature Aphrodite archetype, about the full expression of her power, which isn't a teenager. (Just as Athain isn't a teenager. The Warrior fully expressed isn't a kid.)

Next up is Serai and Cythera and another trip to Agni to deal with Allegra's revenge! That will be a lot of fun to write.

Just finished it in the last hour too! I thoroughly enjoyed it, I love Cythera's character. I think what I like the most is her calm confidence and self assurance, I noticed it particularly as I just finished reading parts 2 and 3 of a YA trilogy with a very impulsive (and wonderful) but really quite self absorbed teenaged heroine, so the contrast was particularly noticeable. I did love the YA series, but not being a teenager myself anymore I really appreciate an SF novel with an adult woman main character, and one who is not 'tragic' or 'damaged' or othered by some super power or weird genetics or being a vampire or werewolf or something (not that there's anything wrong with that kind of story either, but it's a bit common, so this is a nice refreshing change!). She has history, like any person. She knows herself, she knows her strengths and she's fully aware of the bigger picture, she doesn't fling herself headlong into situations without a thought to the impact on other people. But then to balance the selfless aspect of her personality, she also gets to indulge her own personal desires in her own time with Athain, who is an equal, an adult, and experienced as well. It's really not that common to find such a balanced relationship dynamic in SFF I think.

Short answer is, loved it! I think you said you were doing a follow up? If yes, I am waiting eagerly :D

I am so glad! That makes me so happy!

That's very much what I was trying for -- the mature expression of the archetypes, not coming of age but in their prime. Cythera and Athain are very well balanced, I think. And neither of them is going to give up their world or their calling for the other, and neither would ever ask them to.

Yes indeed there will be a second, probably called Serai. She will be the main viewpoint character.

I liked it a lot, especially the sporadic, reflective parts.

My favorite is about Cythera reflecting on her art going out into the void and how she can't know how it will affect others. There are many different kinds of art. I've =very= often had the same thoughts about how, as a visual artist, it goes both ways in that 1) I won't know all of my viewers or how my work affects them, time zones away and 2) the artists involved in inspiring me may never even know or understand the magic of it all.
