Wraith?

A reader asks, "But, I am wondering do you three plan on ever developing the Wraith story even more than in "Inheritors"? Maybe even with a book/s focusing on them in the Pegasus Galaxy, and the Atlantis program as an almost secondary plot? Not asking for details, just wondering if the idea has been flirted with at some point?"

We've certainly chatted about Wraith-centric stories, but I doubt there will be a full Wraith book. I'm not sure we could sell the idea that people really want to read a whole book about Wraith! Certainly if there is a book of short stories (you know, like the Star Wars "Tales From Jabba's Palace" ect.) there will be at least one that's entirely about the Wraith. Amy's already done it and it's amazing. It's the story of how the Asuran code was turned off in the first place.... My story for the anthology would also be Wraithy, "A Blade of Atlantis." But we'll have to see if the short story anthology happens.

::nods:: I agree with your points, but also there would be the danger of becoming too familiar with them. If the entire focus of the book is on the Wraith, they become less monstrous/scary, and that leads to villain decay. Never a good thing!

(and if you need any stories to bulk up that proposed anthology... ;D)

I'm not so much worried about villain decay as losing the mystery. The Wraith are a little mysterious, a little unknowable, and that's part of the appeal.

That would be a great book, the anthology. I have to disagree with comments about villain decay. I think that only happens when the villains get pidgeonholed into a particular archetype. If we know more about them (as a people and as individuals) why couldn't they be scary? Pol Pot was a person, undeniably a villain, one people know (or can find out) all about and isn't HE still scary?

Undeniably, the unknown is terrifying, but just knowing exactly what the Wraith are capable of and who they are wouldn't diminish the scare factor for someone caught in a feeding pod as they struggle helplessly to escape their impending doom.

I hope the anthology happens! I know if it does Amy, Melissa and I will all do stories, and there will be stories from other authors as well.
