Update Time!

May is here, blowing in with tornado warnings and gusty rain. Nothing seems as green as new leaves against a sky of storm, beauty and peril juxtaposed in a way that I wish I could capture in words. I've got a lot going on this month, so some highlights for you.

Unascended, Stargate Atlantis Legacy Book VII is turned in for first edits. I expect we'll get them back soon, and that Unascended will be out late in the summer or early in the fall. I wrote most of Elizabeth's parts, and I enjoyed it so much. I haven't gotten to write Elizabeth since Death Game, so that was a treat.

Today is the day I seriously begin Oath Bound! Oath Bound is the fifth book in the Order of the Air. Jerry is on a dig in Alexandria seeking the lost tomb of Alexander the Great, so today it's back to Alexandria for me! Because Jerry is in Alexandria and the rest of the team is at an airshow in the beginning of the book, Melissa and I are switching viewpoint characters. She generally writes Jerry and I generally write Mitch, but we're trading for this. Alexandria! YESSSS! There are, of course, some Easter eggs for Numinous World readers -- for example, the Ptolemaic tomb Jerry describes in the first scene is the same tomb that Charmian visited with Dion, Lydias' tomb. This is the same world.

Meanwhile, Wind Raker, the fourth book in the Order of the Air, is in final edits at our publisher. I'm hoping we'll have a cover to show you soon. Bob Eggleton is doing the art, and he has done such a fantastic job with the previous covers. He's an amazing artist, and we're so lucky to work with him.

I'm futzing around with some things in the third Elza book, The Marshal's Lover, not quite satisfied with the weight of some scenes. This is such a challenging book both structurally and in terms of its place in the series. I'm not quite happy with it yet. So no ETA on when it will be out yet. I'm kind of a perfectionist about this!

And yes, there will be an eighth Legacy book. We're not under contract yet, but it appears that Melissa Scott and I will do the eighth (and final?) Legacy book, tentatively named Endless, later this year.

After that there's the sixth Order of the Air book on the horizon. It's called Fire Season and takes place in the summer of 1939. We'll be returning to Los Angeles, to Hollywood and the sinister warring Lodges, with the stakes higher than ever. Also on the aviation front, Alma, Lewis and Mitch have a new challenge -- dropping smoke jumpers fighting the wildfires that are raging across the West that summer. It's insanely dangerous, which means it's a job for our guys!

Anything that sounds particularly interesting? Any questions? Ask away!

An eighth book? Wow. Pleased to hear it, too.

Good news about all your other projects, as well.

Yes, definitely an eighth book. No word yet on when we'll start, but probably this fall.
