What's Next?

A reader says, "I finished The Lost and I want more! How long do I have to wait, and what's the next book about?"

I'm so glad you enjoyed The Lost! The next book is Allegiance, by Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold, and it's due out at the end of June. Yes, there will be an ebook too, hopefully released at the same time as the print version.

Allegiance, the third book in the Legacy series, focuses on Ronon as The Lost focused on John. But while it's "Ronon's book" there is still plenty for the other characters to do, as there was for others than John in The Lost.

Rodney's in the hands of the Wraith -- no, worse, Rodney is voluntarily helping the Wraith, with no idea of who he is or what his real story is. This shift of allegiance puts Atlantis in grave danger. How do you protect Atlantis from Rodney? And is there any hope of recovering him and returning him to his true self?

While Carson and Jennifer work together to find a way to restore Rodney if they find him, the others have to find a way to stop him. Unfortunately, the only source for the materials they need may be ruined Sateda, but when Ronon and Radek investigate, Sateda is no longer deserted.... Ronon will be tested in ways he's never imagined.

Meanwhile, Quicksilver is determined to avenge Dust at any cost, and Guide's loyalties are tried once again as Queen Death expands her grasp.

I have to say, I was utterly riveted when I read Allegiance, even though I'd seen the outlines and I knew what was going to happen. Oh boy it's good!

I just finished The Lost. I love how you write John, Teyla, Zelenka, and John and Teyla together. It was wonderful to have pre-pregnancy, pre-mommy Teyla back. She's smart, competent and has interests beyond her child!

Unfortunately I found myself skimming then skipping the Jennifer Keller chapters. I can't stand the character and from what I read she's still as self-absorbed and condescending (especially toward Zelenka and Ronon) as she was in the series. Even Ronon wasn't enough to get me through so much Keller.

I was very disappointed to see Col. Caldwell pushed aside to make room for Col. Carter. Caldwell has such an interesting relationship with Atlantis -- sort of friendly rivals. While Carter is just kind of there, fixing everything, always saying and doing the right thing and apparently great friends with everyone. I was surprised to find her sharing the Athosian greeting with Teyla, drinking buddy and confidante to John and worthy of a formal banquet from Woolsey. Really? This just didn't ring true to the show I watched.

I have to say The Lost was pretty much like seasons 4 and 5 for me. There were some terrific parts but too much time was spent on Keller, the team was all split up, and an SGA regular, Caldwell, was shoved aside to make room for a visitor from SG-1 to ride in and save the day for those hapless folks in Atlantis.

I enjoyed Homecoming, and I did love parts of The Lost; John, Teyla and Beckett in the desert were great. It felt like old times in Pegasus. For that part alone I would recommend the book. Thanks for that.
