The Inheritors

On Monday Melissa, Amy and I will be sitting down to plot The Inheritors, the last book of Legacy. Obviously at this point we know what the main plot lines will be and what stories have to be resolved, but there are many smaller things that are still up in the air. So I wanted to hear from you -- what do you want to see in the last book? I can't spoil Allegiance, The Avengers and Secrets by saying what's happened up to that point, and of course it's not possible for everybody to get everything they want -- especially since many of those things are contradictory! But many things are still open. Have you always wanted to see Woolsey save the day? Hoping Ember and Radek will compare notes? Think Teyla ought to kick Queen Death's psychic butt? Hope Halling gets more than three lines? Want Caldwell to have some hurt/comfort? I can't promise it will be possible, but I'd love to hear what you hope will happen!

I'm slightly behind on the Legacy Series as a whole, but have really gotten into the meat of "Homecoming" and have been enjoying it. As much as I love the added layers of OC's and OC POV sections and POV chapters of character like Radek, Caldwell, etc. I would love the main focus to be on the "the team" John, Teyla, Ronon and Rodney in the last book.

I fell in love with the show because of "Team" and for the final, pivotal book of you the series, I think that's what should be the main focus. I'm just fearful with such a large supporting cast that if the final book has to spread the love around too much, it's going to dilute the overall feel.

I think that's a problem we have to steer carefully around, because there are so many plot threads that have to be resolved at this point!

Homecoming was very much an ensemble book, and we had to get everybody and their little brother in the scene. The four middle books have been much more focused, with each member of the team getting "their episode." The Lost is John's, Allegiance is Ronon's, The Avengers is Teyla's, and Secrets is Rodney's. Of course they're all in all four books, but for example Allegiance is a lot like Sateda in how it gives Ronon center stage.

The last book has to wrap up the main plot lines and also resolve a whole bunch of subplots, so keeping the focus has to be something we try to stay aware of. Thanks!

Looking forward to all the books...

I would love to see Teyla realize her full potential regarding her gift.

Hope John and Teyla are in a good place as respects their relationship, romantically and long term.

Love to see Woolsey rise to the occasion and be a factor in saving the day.

How about Halling getting a love interest. Someone to keep him warm on those long winter nights. And maybe add another generation to those diminished Athosians.

Hope Todd is still around to add some spice and intrigue to the universe.

Hope john gets to the point where he has some semblance of peace as regards his survivor guilt.

Looking forward to seeing the ins and outs of Rodney when he is himself again. And truly getting to see what this experience has done to him...That could probably be a whole book just there..

Lots of good ideas!

#1 definitely! And there is certainly more Todd!

John's guilt and his "deathwish" are major plot points, and that's all going to come to a head in the last book.

And Rodney, of course -- presuming he is himself again! :)

And really hoping to read just how all this has affeted the Team. The impact it has all had on John, Teyla, Rodney and Ronon as a Team. As a family unit.

hugs again

He really has been helping, and he's not getting any credit. Well, ok, some credit from Teyla and Jennifer.

There are so many cool scenes I wish there were room for! Sadly, one that I wanted, Todd and Sam in the same place, doesn't happen until the end of Secrets!

Ardent's butt is very thoroughly kicked in The Avengers, and not by Todd, so that's resolved before The Inheritors! I think you're going to love that scene to pieces. Seriously hard-core Wraith queenage!

The Old One -- oh, now that's a story! :)

Not sure how the events progress, but I hope we get to see Atlantis (the city as an entity) welcome back its number one sysadmin.

Rodney will definitely be back in Atlantis. Oh yeah. And that is a spoilery, spoilery thing!
Apr. 30th, 2011 03:25 pm (UTC)
I'd like to see how the curiosity of the ATA gene develops. We've seen that it is natural and that some people can utilize more so than others (i.e. Sheppard, O'Neill, Carson, etc.). I want to know why and how does it play into the events of the books, especially The Inheritors. :D

I'm also with ssagey in that I want to see how all of the events so far have affected the team. Definitely looking forward to *fingers crossed* some team hurt/comfort, especially with Sheppard.
May. 1st, 2011 10:56 am (UTC)
There's more development of how the ATA gene works and why some people find it easier to use than others in The Avengers, so some of that is covered before The Inheritors.

There will definitely be more of how this has affected the team, and boy does John need a hug! So does Ronon. Well, actually so does Rodney. And Teyla, really. Ok, they all need hugs by then! Maybe they can borrow some hug authorizations from the SGC. Sam ought to be able to pull some strings for extra hugs....

I think I'd like to see some of the changes at the SGC that we talked about a while back (that is, people getting promotions et.c) at least be prepared or a kind outlook how things might progress :)
May. 1st, 2011 11:08 am (UTC)
I think there are some hints about how things might pan out in the future so far, but yes, I see what you mean about some things need to be spelled out in The Inheritors.
May. 1st, 2011 12:49 am (UTC)
Wish list? OK...

I'd like to see Ronon find purpose beyond revenge, simply killing Wraith. You've hinted at a Satedan re-birth - I'm hoping Ronon is a big part of that.

I'd like to see Todd/Guide take Waterlight under his wing, so to speak... Teyla can't pose as his queen forever.

I'd like to see Sheppard securely in Atlantis... with or without receiving the respect Earth (family, the Air Force) have refused to grant him.

Speaking of respect, I'd like to see Rodney (whatever his eventual state) find some for Zelenka.

I'd like to see Teyla in a position of responsibility worthy of her talents. Also, I'd like a hint of Torren's future path.

And, I don't know if it's planned for this series, or being left open - but ultimately, how *DO* two groups co-exist if one must murder the other to survive?

Sheesh, better stop!
May. 1st, 2011 11:52 am (UTC)
Ronon definitely will find new purpose, and also a rather unexpected ally for Sateda!

No, Teyla can't pose as Steelflower forever! That's definitely a plotline to resolve in Inheritors!

And, I don't know if it's planned for this series, or being left open - but ultimately, how *DO* two groups co-exist if one must murder the other to survive?

And that's the big one, isn't it? That's the main plotline! How do you do it? Can you do it? Will they do it? That's the huge one!
May. 1st, 2011 03:10 am (UTC)
oh yes what the above said..
Love to see where Torren's gift fits into the scheme of things..
and did we ever know exactly how Michael was going to use him..
May. 1st, 2011 01:07 pm (UTC)
We'll definitely find out something Torren can do that nobody expected in Secrets!

John - To find out how his relationship with Teyla/Toren will evolve. Also to see the love/hate relationship with Todd flourish.

Teyla - How her powers will will come into play and possibly find out more about her genetics. Epic battle with Queen Death would be nice.

Ronon - To have a one on one with Todd. Kill lots of Wraith and possibly find a partner?

Rodney - To solve the final problem, save the day after telling everyone it is impossible and get back safely (as a Human)

Elizabeth - Interested to see if she will stay ascended and if not how this will impact John and Teyla's relationship. Will the early John and Weir relationship return?

Carson - Would like him to have a bigger part, really enjoy his and Mckay's friendship.

Zelenka - To get recognition for his work. From Rodney might be too much to ask.

Sam - To hear if her and O'neils relationship is going and if hew new deployment on the Hammond has caused a strain?

Torren - How his gifts will evolve.

Todd - To lead the Wraith.

Atlantis - To stay in Pegasus but on a more hospitable planet.

Wraith - Defeated but not eradicated. And possible new Alien threat.

Interesting ones!

John -- definitely more of how things will evolve, and John and Todd have some time together in The Avengers

Teyla -- :) I think that's one of the things that it will come down to in Inheritors, Queen Death vs. Teyla. And Teyla's definitely the underdog in that one!

Ronon -- I don't know if he'll have a one on one with Todd. Probably not, as he has a long Wraithy section in Secrets.

Rodney -- Rodney's plotline is the most spoilery. And ultimately it does all rest on his choices, doesn't it?

Elizabeth -- There will be more Elizabeth. No, it's not a dream. Yes, she is Ascended. But how much can she help without conseqences, and what will those consequences be? We do know that Elizabeth would do just about anything and run any risk to herself to save Atlantis!

Carson -- Carson is in and out. There's not so much of him in Allegiance and Avengers, but he's got more in Secrets.

Radek -- From Rodney is too much to ask! :) He'd be happy if he could just get off the gate team!

Sam -- Her deployment is definitely hard on their relationship -- especially with the things that happen in Allegiance. We'll see more of that in Avengers.

Definitely a lot of fun things to come! And a whooooole lot to wrap up in Inheritors!

well I dont see that john and elizabeth had any kind of romantic relationship at all so cant see how that would impact on J/T's relationship...

and daniels mentor bends the rules all the time and she hasnt been cast back to earth yet so why should elizabeth who is very very smart..and would find a way around it...

I am so looking forward to the rest of the series of books and whatever other books you write for the Stargate series..
and thanks so much for giving us these little insights...

Yes, but Oma is still off locked in combat with Anubis. So I don't think they can expect help from Oma.

But as you say, Elizabeth is very smart. And she's very determined. I think we can expect that Elizabeth will do whatever she needs to do!

I'm so glad you're enjoying the books!

I go with having Teyla see her full potential up against Queen Death.

Have finished both Homecoming and The Lost(also went and read Death Game also great) and it was like a would like a movie to go(I can hope -right). Anyway, I had this long list of questions for both of the Legacy books and LJ eat them *pouts* Not going to rewrite...well, maybe later.

I do however have one question in reference to the ending of The Lost. It is the conversation that John and Teyla have out on the balcony after his release from the infirmary. He asks Teyla:

"Teyla, is there something we need to talk about?"

He sounded strained, so uncertain. "no," she said quietly. There is nothing you need to say. There is nothing you you could say to me that your actions have not said a thousand times"

I could finish the rest but you know this. What was really be said here? Am I reading the wrong things between the lines?

Also LOVE, loved Torren and John together...much cuteness.
May. 4th, 2011 09:33 am (UTC)
I think Teyla's ultimately got to go up against Queen Death! Yep!

I'm sorry lj ate your questions. If you want to redo them I'll be happy to answer!

The end scene in The Lost! What was really being said?

John was asking if they needed to talk about what happened between them in the gym. They got suddenly called to the control room when Todd called and didn't have a chance to react or respond or talk about what this meant, and then they were on the Hammond with Sam and Ronon and a million people all over the place. And then John was unconscious! So this is the first private conversation they've had since then. And John is so much a not talking about his feelings person!

But Teyla knows that. She doesn't need for him to make some big, difficult, out of character declaration of how he feels. She knows he loves her. His actions have said so a thousand times. They got a bunch of stuff sorted out between them, like what happened with Kanaan, and they've both accepted each other, as they always would have if they'd talked. They don't need to have a big, awkward scene. They can just both do the thing they really want to do, which is why he puts his arm around her and they just stand there cuddled up.
