As we move closer to fall, I'm getting excited about The Avengers, the fourth book in the Legacy series that will be out in October. The Avengers has been finished for a while now, and it's so hard to wait!

So here are some teasers -- pick a chapter title, and I'll give you the first line (or paragraph, if the line is something like "Help!" he said).

The Prisoner
Holding the Fort
Guide's Play
A Game of Queens
The Last War
Sheppard and Guide
Son of the Ancients
Beneath the Ice
Command Decisions
Home Truths
The Gift of Life
The Things You Leave Behind
Original Sin
Devils and Dust
Collateral Damage
Two Queens
Tiger by the Tail

Total trivia: two of the chapter titles are inspired by songs on Sam's playlist, Elton John's Original Sin and Bruce Springsteen's Devils and Dust.

Here you are!

"I do not see how we are to do this," Radek said quietly as the puddle jumper jinked, dodging madly around the fire radiating outward from the hive ship, trying to hug the surface of the shields as closely as possible.

Devils and Dust

Devils and Dust for you!

It was going to be close. Jack could see that.

son of the ancestors please

Here you go!

"You came to me before when you wished to test your retrovirus," Todd said. He was pacing, and each time he came to the end of the room he swung around, exactly the same number of steps across the control room of the cruiser each time.

Benath the ice, please. :)

Ok! A chapter beginning from the last chapter's cliffhanger! In which Ronon's team has found something they Did Not Want.

"Everybody back!" Ronon yelled. "Cadman, cover them!"
Jun. 17th, 2011 01:31 pm (UTC)
Sheppard and Guide please and thank you!
Jun. 17th, 2011 02:42 pm (UTC)
Ok! A thought provoking line....

"We have much to discuss," Guide said. "If you do intend to make an alliance in truth."
Jun. 17th, 2011 04:36 pm (UTC)
Home truths please!
Jun. 17th, 2011 04:39 pm (UTC)
In which there is a tense moment for the team!

Ronon got up last, following Radek toward the door. He didn't look around. Crap, John thought. But what he said was, "Ronon."

I'm going to go with The Things You Leave Behind. :D

Ok! A scene that starts with Ronon and Mel Hocken.

Ronon Dex was a tough guy. Mel had watched him knock down three Marines in the gym, and she was impressed.

An interesting one.... :)

"Well?" Guide asked, looming over her.

"Just a second," Jennifer murmured as she scanned the results, her lips forming the numbers soundlessly. "Almost done..." She ignored his quiet hiss of impatience, unwilling to rush.

Collateral Damage, please :)

And you get Teyla, with a bit of a spoiler!

"I do not see that we have any choice," Teyla said. It was still weird to see her at the conference table like that, her skin tinted green and her face that of a Wraith, though not as weird as it used to be.

Guide's Play, please ;)
Jun. 18th, 2011 12:19 pm (UTC)
Guide's Play for you!

The moment Guide saw Ember, in the pilot's lounge just off the dart bay, he knew there was something wrong. His face was smooth and well-fed, his dark blue silks immaculate, embroidered in copper with their pattern of whirling atomic particles, but tension showed in every line of his body.

Snow, please.

I expect this is not what you expected....

Radek didn't mind the cold. Which, of course, was typical Radek. In days past he'd slogged through slushy Cambridge winters in old sweaters, disdaining the bus in favor of a bicycle no matter what the weather. William had thought it bravado at the time.

Two Queens...please
Jun. 18th, 2011 12:29 pm (UTC)
For you, Two Queens. In which one queen makes her move....

The George Hammond cruised through hyperspace, serene and cool against the blue shifted blur. Eleven hours until time.

Holding the Fort please. I'm so excited! I loved the excerpts from the beginning that you put up a while ago
Jun. 18th, 2011 07:28 pm (UTC)
Holding the Fort for you!

A cold wind scoured the whitecaps crashing against the piers, but Sam Carter thought it wasn't as cold as it had been. Atlantis was beautiful in the weak winter sunshine, as always. They were a week past the winter solstice here, and soon the days would lengthen noticeably. They might even get warmer. Sam could appreciate the astronomical elegance of the seasons, even while nearly freezing to death in her flightsuit, waiting for Steven Caldwell on this chilly balcony.

Well, I was going to ask for the last chapter or perhaps Quicksilver, but now I'm intrigued by Croatoan. I just looked up the the term and there are a couple of very tasty definitions which could make for an interesting chapter :-)

So, Croatoan please.
Jun. 19th, 2011 12:40 pm (UTC)
It's a different chapter. I'm wondering what people will think!

Here's the beginning for you --

It was good to be home, Steven Caldwell thought, back to the Mountain where the guys on the guardpost didn't even blink when you and three or four other people appeared out of thin air.

Oh, btw, thank you for your very detailed email! I think we can do something fun and interesting. The three of us need to sit down and talk about it. :)

Has someone asked for Steelflower yet? (she asks hopefully :)
Jun. 22nd, 2011 11:24 am (UTC)
Steelflower, one of my very favorite chapters in the whole series!

Teyla stood by the Stargate. Above, the duty crew on control were trying to not stare at her. She did look impressive, in a very Wraith way. And yet perhaps Teyla would not take the stares for anything so friendly.
