Inspired by some really interesting conversations about the Wraith going on over on Gateworld, some thoughts about how we've extrapolated about the Wraith in Legacy

Yes, we will see young Wraith in Legacy. In the Avengers we'll meet Waterlight, an adolescent queen. She's old enough to feed but not old enough to have chosen her first pallax, still guided by her mother's Consort rather than having her own. In Secrets we'll meet a male child (whether he'll be blade or cleverman is undetermined, as he's too young for either). In Secrets we'll also see an infant queen in flashback, a tiny baby.

Do I think there is a Wraith "homeworld?" Not per se. That's not the direction we've gone. There are worlds that are friendly to one hive or another, worlds that are worshippers or worlds that are bases. We'll see in some detail a world that is a refuge. And we'll see their planet of origin. But these aren't the same place in the Legacy series. Other writers could easily do it differently though!

Wraith queen's clothes -- borrowing from the look of the show, each Wraith queen seemed to have her own distinctive look, her own individual fashion sense. This is also true of the queens in Legacy. Queen Death dresses like Coldamber, the queen in Submersion. Waterlight dresses more like the queen in The Rising, though her hair is the color of the queen in Allies. The queen we meet in Secrets looks more like the queen in The Rising, but her dress is entirely different. They're all very unique.

Anyway, that's my contribution to the topic of the day! :)

I remember reading about Waterlight before. A very promising teaser! :) The male child you mentioned, how old will he be? I'm also very curious about the infant queen. I may have an idea about whose child she could be.

Even though I'm repeating myself over and over: can't wait for 'Secrets'. :D

I can't really post over there as myself! But here's my two cents for the WDC if you want to link it.

The male child is the equivalent of five or six developmentally, though he's more than five or six planetary years old.

The infant queen is the daughter of Osprey and Wind. :)

Thanks! I'll gladly link it. :)

That's an interesting point! Do Wraith develop slower than humans in general, or is it just this little one?

Ha! I knew it! :D

We thought that they did, though not dramatically. A child who appears six might be fifteen, not five hundred!

Yes, that's Osprey and Wind's daughter. First daughter, I should say....

They are. This is a different Wind, one who was male and lived long ago. He's the blade in Draco Stellaris' beautiful painting of the First Mothers!

I think lots of times their moms actually choose! Wraith moms are hard to say no to! :) This little boy in Secrets is too young to have a career path. He's only about six developmentally and still has his Mother Name, not his First Name.

It sounds very great to be learning alittle more about the Wraith, how they are like. And thus how we didn't get to see them in the StarGate Atlantis series.

I'm fascinated by the Wraith, and writing the Wraith has been one of my favorite things in the Legacy series.
