Songs for each book

A while back someone asked me about the "playlist" of songs I said went with each of my books in my head. I listed some of them in the author Q&A at the end of the original American editions of Black Ships and Hand of Isis, but I thought I'd share my favorites with you this way -- with their music vids -- and also the song that is absolutely Fortune's Wheel!

For Gull, the perfect song is Enya's Book of Days -- always has been, always will be! I listened to this constantly while I was writing it.

Charmian's is Loreena McKennitt's Beneath A Phrygian Sky. Perfect for Charmian, as is a lot of this album.

Lydias really has two songs, both Elton John, Original Sin and The One. I listened to them both over and over, but this is the one that when I hear it I think, "Oh, there's Lydias!" It's like seeing an old friend across a crowded room.

And this is the one for Elza. It's utterly perfect for her, and it's definitely one I listen to over and over while writing. She has a whole soundtrack, but this is the ultimate one.

So what do you guys think?

Oh, I love 'Book of Days'. It's one of my favourite songs ever. And it's very fitting for Gull indeed. I've just finished reading 'Black Ships' and I like it very much. The story is so tangible, I could almost smell the sea while reading it. I will order a copy of 'Hand of Isis' as soon as possible.

Is it just coincidence or are there intended similarities between Xandros and Wind? :)

No, that's not coincidence at all! :) I was thinking of Xandros when I wrote the description of Wind. Xandros-as-a-Wraith! Which definitely tells you something about what Wind is likely to do and how he's likely to handle things, doesn't it?

I'm so glad you enjoyed Black Ships! I still love that books so much and it gives me tremendous pleasure to hear that other people love it.

Hand of Isis and Stealing Fire are really different from each other. Lydias, in Stealing Fire, is very much like my John Sheppard. He's a soldier who has lost everything and who, because he has nothing better to do, comes to a mysterious and ancient place that has been waiting for him where he has a unique destiny, and in it finds rebirth. Hand of Isis is a much more complex story, a classical tragedy. I mean, we all know Rome is going to win!

It's really amazing, I can totally picture Wind with Xandros' personality! A true blade, risking his own life to protect his family, or hive.

I've ordered 'Hand of Isis' and amazon told me it'll probably arrive on Friday - early enough for me to take it with me on my vacations. :D

Yes, Wind is very Xandros! Osprey's true consort, the father of the first queen besides the original nine.... We'll see Wind and Osprey in Secrets (and a tiny peek at their daughter....)

I hope so much that you enjoy Hand of Isis!
