A while back I did a post about the epigrams that start The Lost and The Avengers, so I thought I'd share the one that begins Secrets, from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Her lips were red, her looks were free,
Her locks were yellow as gold:
Her skin was as white as leprosy,
The Nightmare Life-in-Death was she,
Who thicks man's blood with cold...
The sun's rim dips; the stars rush out:
At one stride comes the dark.
-- Samuel Coleridge

The one for The Lost is about John. The one for The Avengers is about Teyla and Sam. And this one...is interesting! If you know the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, it's about a sailor who brings a curse on the crew of his ship and then lots of bad things happen, including being taken aboard the ship belonging to Death, who appears as a woman both beautiful and terrifying.
