Here you go! A briefing scene in which the end of The Lost is discussed, and Ronon brings up something no one wants to think about!

Jennifer nodded and went on quickly. “It seems pretty likely that the Wraith have found a way to reverse engineer one of the versions of the retrovirus that we tested on live subjects. They’ve created a way to transform humans into Wraith.”

“As Michael did with his hybrids,” Teyla said.

“Something like that,” Jennifer said. “But he was trying to create an intermediate form between humans and Wraith. Here…” She looked across the table at Sheppard and his team. “From everything everyone’s said, Rodney didn’t look much like any of the hybrids.”

“He was Wraith,” Teyla said. “If I had not known his face, I would not have believed he was anything else.”

“He had a Wraith feeding hand,” Ronon said.

Oh my! You get Rodney in a jam!

Quicksilver looked warily at Death, afraid he knew exactly what they wanted from him, and she smiled again, laying her off hand on his shoulder. *We are on the knife’s-edge, cleverman,* she said, and made the word a caress. Her touch was delicate, thrilling, and Quicksilver suppressed a shiver. *My Old One has proposed another attack, while we know their shield is compromised, and you, Quicksilver, have given us control of their computers. But Noontide believes they will have found a way to counter us, and Guide, who has fought the Lanteans more than any man, agrees with him.*

*It has been my experience that the Lanteans cannot be taken the same way twice,* Guide said, with a deferential bow.

In which they lay out the problem!

Dick turned to Dr. Keller. “Assuming for a moment that we do get Dr. McKay back, what happens then?”

“We don’t know,” Dr. Beckett said before Dr. Keller could answer.

“If the process they used is based on our original retrovirus, it should simply wear off once the virus is no longer being administered,” she said.

“Yes, but we don’t know that it is,” Dr. Beckett said. “It could just as easily be based on the process I developed for Michael, or they could have designed it from scratch after we gave them the idea.”

In which John has a unique approach to diplomacy....

“You wouldn’t last ten minutes in a fight,” the Satedan officer said over his shoulder.

“Says the man hiding behind the Lanteans.”

John was losing patience. “You two want to fight? You know what, fine, go beat the crap out of each other. And then it’s over, all right? No saying ‘somebody got a bruise and now it’s a diplomatic incident.’”

Caldwell gave him a look. “Sheppard — ”

“A fair fight, no weapons. Call it sparring.”

“More like giving lessons to children,” the Genii officer said, but there seemed to be muttered agreement on both sides.

“All right,” John said. He glanced across the square at Teyla. He was pretty sure she wasn’t going to think this was a very good idea. “Let’s get out of this crowd. I don’t want this to turn into a general brawl.”

“You are a crazy person,” Radek said as they trailed the would-be combatants and their friends behind a row of buildings, following the light of the lamp one of them carried. “You know that, yes?”

Ooooh! A very cool scene full of Wraith!

*We don’t have the strength.* That was Mist, newly admitted to the zenana. Guide thought he had not meant to speak, but to his credit, once the words were formed, he lifted his head bravely. *My queen, our fleet is large, but it is not overwhelming. Not to face Atlantis. Four years ago, I was part of the first attack, and saw what their defenses are like. And they are stronger now.*

*We have the new shields, * a newcomer with a mind like the sound of water said, but he did not sound entirely confident.

* They — I believe they will be of use,* Mist said, *but I don’t think it will be enough to overcome Atlantis.*

*They escaped by trickery that time,* the Old One said. *They pretended to be destroyed, and your queen was fool enough to believe it.*

Mist snarled, reaching for his weapon. *My queen was there, Old One — * He stopped himself in the nick of time, and Death turned slowly to face him.

I don't know which page to take, there are so many different scenes already started that it is hard to choose.

So how about page:

107 or 223?

107! In which Woolsey has to face the music for misplacing Rodney and giving away the Ancient warship with Jack O'Neill!

“I’m just wondering,” O’Neill said. “Because I remember sitting — well, not right here, but at a table a lot like this one only not as nice — while you explained that it hadn’t been cost-effective for us to rescue one of our teams. And so now I’m wondering, just because I’m curious, how much do you think an Ancient battlecruiser is worth? More, or less, than the one person you’re looking for?”

“Are you suggesting that if it were a trade, it would be reasonable to sacrifice McKay for the ship?”

“I’m just asking for a simple opinion. A cost-benefit analysis. That’s what all these decisions boil down to, right?

Oh you did hit the Wraithy bits! Ember and Quicksilver!

He had been listening with half his mind to the clevermen’s conversation, and suddenly a fragment caught his attention. *What?*

Ember looked up from his own console, frowning slightly. *I told you this before, Quicksilver. These cables aren’t easy to grow, we’ll need to take on supplies soon, if we’re to make the rest of them.*

*Yes, yes, I heard that,* Quicksilver said. *Where were you going to go?*

Ember looked at Salt, who said, *Gaffen is best. And we can cull as well.*

In which the priorities change! :)

“Whoa,” the airman said, and William blinked.

“Isn’t that — ?”

The airman looked up at him. “That looks like a ZPM. Doesn’t it, doc?”

It was a line drawing, like all the images, not a photograph — another reason to think this was an older listing, because it was clear from talking to Ronon that the Satedans had had fairly sophisticated photography. They’d set it wrong side up, rested it on the broad base, but the jagged shape, the veins of shading, were unmistakable. And, just like that, William thought, all their priorities changed.

“Get that onto the computer right away, please, and get it cleaned up. Forget about anything else for the moment, see if you can get the text as clear as possible.” He touched his earpiece. “Dex. Ronon, are you there?"

For you, enter Jeannie Miller!

“Very well,” Woolsey said. “As I said earlier, there have been — developments — since Daedalus left Earth. We have positive information that Rodney McKay is still alive. We received intelligence pinpointing his location, and incidentally giving us the chance to ambush Queen Death’s primary hive, and mounted a rescue operation. Our team was successful in surprising Death, and in doing significant damage to her ship, but unfortunately our information was incomplete, and the team was confronted with an unexpected development. Dr. McKay was alive, but uncooperative. He — he had been transformed into a Wraith.”

“What?” Jeannie’s voice rose sharply.

“I’m sorry,” Woolsey said.

The big space battle! I have to say, nobody writes space battles like Melissa!

Chandler was already looping away, turning to present their aft shields to the hive. The railguns flashed again as they turned, but the hits were minimal, caught by the hive’s remaining shields.

“The hive’s lost hyperdrive,” Franklin said. He bent closer over his console. “They’re venting atmosphere aft — no, that’s sealed now.” He glanced over his shoulder. “Our rear shields are at fifty percent.”

“Anything from Daedalus?” Sam asked.

“No, ma’am. She’s still not underway.”

And if Steven could do anything to help, he would, Sam thought. Darts flashed past, a 302 in pursuit: Hocken’s wing doing what she could in support, and the Hammond shivered again as a shot struck a failing shield.

Bingo! Guide himself!

*You know what was done to me,* Quicksilver said. He couldn’t have said how he knew it, but once the words were formed, he felt the confirmation, quickly shielded. *Tell me!*

*Commander,* Ember said, his tone a warning, and Guide shook his head.

*No. Not now.* He looked at Quicksilver, frowning slightly, the star tattoo around his eye very dark in the gentle shiplight. *I may not tell you.* He held up his hand, forestalling Quicksilver’s instinctive outburst. *There are good reasons why you must find that out for yourself, it is not something you can come to by way of another’s mind. But there is one thing I may share with you — *

*Commander,* Ember said again, and this time there was definitely fear in his tone. *You run too great a risk.*

Guide spared him a quick glance. *I know the risks I run, cleverman.* He looked back at Quicksilver. *Give me your hand.*

I am so loving this!

Okay, my request - pg 188 or 200, you choose *wink*

Nov. 9th, 2011 11:59 pm (UTC)
Page 200 for you, with Teyla!

He shied away from that thought, and saw Teyla give him a curious look. She did not comment, however, merely held out a widemouthed cup. He took it, sniffing warily, but it smelled only of smoke and herbs.

“Dr. Lynn says he believes it to contain something like caffeine,” Teyla said.

“Yeah?” John took a careful sip, decided it tasted a little bit like lemons and mint. And smoke, which was disconcerting. “You know, I don’t remember including him in this.”

Teyla smiled. “He says this is his job.”

John smiled back, took another sip of the — he supposed it was a tea. “It’s not going to replace coffee,” he said. He looked back at the tables, where the Marines were hauling lamps into place, and Radek was tinkering with the generator: Atlantis’s contribution to the party, light and pole heaters for the chill ahead. “How do you think it’s going?”

Instead of Wraith you get the Genii!

Sora paced at the edge of her camp, staring at the now-familiar wreckage of the street in hopes of catching some sign of movement. Ambrus had made it abundantly clear that he intended to keep them bottled up while Radim made nice to the Lanteans, but of course if the Satedans came poking around she’d have to run them off. That might get things moving again.

It was maddening having so much to do and being unable to do any of it. She’d never been good at being idle, not since she was a child tagging along after her father, learning to work machinery and to fight like a boy when most of the other girls were playing with dolls. It was tiresome enough having to play farmer’s daughter when they had visitors from offworld, weaving flowers in her hair and letting silly fools like Teyla Emmagan tell her how much she’d grown.

Oh boy! You got a key moment for Rodney!

Ember moved along the row of cells, eyes flicking over the faces. He stopped at least perhaps a third of the way down, and tugged the webbing away from the human’s chest. It was a male, middle-aged, pale with fear. He made a soft sound, a whimper of a plea, and Ember sank claws into his chest, draining him in a heartbeat. Someone, somewhere in the row of cells, cried out, a single note of fear and sorrow. Ember flexed his fingers in satisfaction.

*Have you chosen?*

*I — * Quicksilver froze, made himself point at random.

He found himself pointing at a young woman who sagged half conscious in her webbing. He swallowed hard, lifted his hand, feeling the mouth stretch and open.
