As I announced last night, Allegiance is out! Here's the preorder for the print version directly from the publisher, which is by far the fastest way to get the print book, as it will be shipped directly to you when it's printed and bound, and here's the ebook on Amazon US available immediately. The book will also eventually be up on Barnes & Noble, Amazon UK, Amazon France, etc, but I do not know how long it will take. That's up to the seller as to how fast they make it available on their website.

Meanwhile, I'm so happy that I've heard from some of you guys who ran right out and bought the ebook last night! Anybody sit up burning the midnight oil reading it?

First reactions, anybody?

There may be spoilers in comments.

I have sat late. Mostly because of QS, damn his eyes and ridiculous short hair - did you know Wraith had male pattern baldness, btw? Anyhoo, lack of sleep aside, why, oh why didn't I realise it would be him getting the Wraith through the Stargate? *facepalm* Silly, silly me...

Oh yeah! Quicksilver helped the Wraith invade! I actually didn't know Melissa and Amy were going to do that, and when I read it I was going, "Oh my God. Really? Really?" And Lorne. Rodney's going to have to do some serious explaining to Lorne.

I would say that I can't wait to read it, and figuratively that's true... but actually I am waiting, waiting for Amazon UK to hurry up and start selling it! Really looking forward to reading it. :-)

Since it's not my book, I can say that it's really, really good! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I absolutely adore the end battle sequence with Sam. I had read the outline so I knew what was going to happen, but my heart was in my teeth when I read it.

And now let's go get Rodney. Right!

Next up, The Avengers, which is my book! :)

I just finished the book and found it interesting. However, I am also disappointed. I realize the focus is on Rodney's predicament, but I wish you would have included more about John and Teyla's relationship. It has taken over five years for them to progress to this point, and you didn't even include them having a conversation about their feelings for each other! I also do not appreciate vague references such as expressions of affection. Yes, we all know what is meant but it's about as romantic as dirt. I'm not asking for a Harlequinn romance, but for pete's sake, please include more descriptive romance in the next book. It really bugged us Sheyla fans that the show's producer's only managed to work in one kiss over five seasons and then let the show get cancelled. Please do not do that with the books. I want to see John and Teyla happily married and their lives settled by the end of the Legacy series. So, to wrap this rant up, please, please include more romance in the next book (and more John, teyla, torren interaction too). And just tell poor Kanaan about John and Teyla already!

Re: Allegiance
Believe me, I understand where you're coming from! But as you know, every word has to be approved by MGM. It was a real question whether as much as is in the book was going to be able to stay in. Melissa and Amy and our editor all had to go to bat to keep the lair scene in. I know it's not as much as you want, and it's not as much as we would write if we had a free hand, but Stargate Atlantis belongs to MGM and we have to follow their directions. (But yes, Kanaan will hear about this further in the next book.)

Re: Allegiance
Um, yes, I guess that's true. I posted my comment before I read the others; i didn't remember this isn't your book. Thanks for going to bat for the fans!

Re: Allegiance
MGM has really strict policies about romance. They've never before allowed a pair to explicitly get together in a book who were not canonically together on screen -- ever! So I think we're actually doing pretty well here! :)

Re: Allegiance
Gosh, this sounds just like the internal politics & approval process I have to play at work, in order to get any meaningful projects ok'd. :-(

So, what I'm taking away from this is that the Sheyla has had to be written so damn obliquely that you only 'get it' if you know what you're looking for, and consequently MGM can deny any 'shipping has happened, should they wish to do so at a later stage.

I have to admit that this is one of the frustrations I had with the first two books, and I was getting to the point where I wanted to make the plea to the authors (sorry Jo!) to acknowledge it properly or just drop it. But in Allegiance it seemed a bit more direct (for a value of direct) and therefore less frustrating to me. Knowing now what hoops our beloved authors are having to jump through to get even this level of 'ship in there, I will just dust off my 'oblique glasses' and be satisfied with what you can give us.

I'm not usually a 'shipper or Sheyla devotee, but in the context of the Legacy storyline, it does feel right! My only concern will be the end of book 6, where I would want (expect) something more explicitly stated (whilst still PG rated) - an acknowledgement of the changed status between these two characters. After all, the early promo for this series was that pretty much anything was up for discussion and that there would not be a giant re-set button at the end (which still makes me shiver with equal parts anticipation & dread when I think about it).

Loved the QS storyline - was waiting for him to be put in the position of infiltrating Atlantis, and this did not disappoint. Nor the slowly unfolding realisation of his identity. Loved the action sequences and space battles - very well written. Not sure about the whole 'Genii trying to annexe Sateda' twist, but I'm waiting to see how that plays out. The Genii machinations in general are leaving me a little less than thrilled - I was more satisfied with their airtime in The Lost, I have to say. Radek & Ronon - what's not to like :-) And considering this wasn't John's or Teyla's book, they both individually & separately got enough coverage to keep me happy.

So, we're half way through the 6 episode season, and I'm on tenterhooks for the next 4 months... A readers thanks to all the wonderful authors for their continuing excellent contribution to the SGA canon (if we're allowed to treat it as such).

We now return you to your regular broadcast...

Re: Allegiance
MGM has, in the past, completely banned any non canonical romantic plot line at all, or any canonical relationship actually having any development or onscreen physical affection. Nobody's ever been able to do it! So there are a bunch of new things here -- Rodney and Jennifer obviously living together in Homecoming, for example!

I'm glad that John and Teyla does feel right to you. While of course I can't say what will happen with approvals for future books, I think the books develop several different relationships in different directions, and I hope that those developments will stay through the review process.

Yes, there is no reset button! Absolutely. The changes are real and will not be erased. So, for example, Teyla and Kanaan have broken up. That's not going away.

I'm so glad you like the Quicksilver plotline! It was Melissa's idea, and I just gasped when she brought it up. I love it so much. And the Radek and Ronon show are always tons of fun!

The next book, The Avengers, is Teyla's book, so yes -- plenty of Teyla coming up! The Avengers is my solo book, and I adored having the two plot threads rest on Teyla and Sam!

I'm so glad you loved it!

The Avengers will probably be out in March, depending on MGM's approval process.

Which scene had you cracking up?

It was the part where Sheppard and Ronan were talking and looking after Rodney's kitten and Ronan wanted to stun it :)

*g* I've got a seven month old kitten at present, and I admit sometimes it would be tempting to stun him! :)
