A Poll!

I have five books coming out in the next year, and I'm very curious about who's planning to read what. So a poll!

I'm planning to read

The Avengers (book 4 of the Legacy series)
Lost Things
The General's Mistress
Secrets (book 5 of the Legacy series)
Moebius Squared (SG-1)

I'm planning to

buy the print book
buy the ebook
get it from the library
get it some other way which I will tell you about in comments

Which one are you looking forward to most?

Thank you for being so helpful! And print books are still the choice by a wide margin.

I am going to check out all of your books darling! and I almost buy all my books for my Kindle Fire now. Cause I love having many books with me at all times:)

Schmoo! Baby! I haven't seen you around in forever! I hope everything is good for you!

Back where I can do fandom things. Can't do that on FB and I am on Tumblr too.

Health is crappy but family is good. Can't ask better than that. :)

I'm really looking forwards to both the Legacy books and anything to do with SG-1 and time travel ought to be a blast!
I'd like to read some of your other stuff-where d'you recommend I start?
I bought the last legacy book as an e book simply to get it since there appears to be no print date this side of the pond(UK). I normally love actual books (house full, need more shelves...)but there is a nice side to being able to carry a whole library of books in one neat package. (I have in mind reading James H.Schmitz's "Telzey" stories when I was a bit...younger. There's a scene where she sits down to study and unhooks her library from her belt and goes to work, and I thought how amazing that would be.
Now I have a book reader crammed to the gills with Andre Norton, Mercedes Lackey ,Ann MacAffrey, Terry Pratchett,Loads of fanfic..and you.
Not bad company!

I'm also in the UK and I was planning to buy Allegiance directly from Fandemonium since I really like my dead tree books. Do you want to do a joint order and split the postage costs? Perhaps wait until Avengers is out and buy three?/four? books in one go?
Mar. 10th, 2012 09:16 am (UTC)
Sounds like a plan! I think it's about three weeks for an order to be printed and I will definitely be buying them so we might as well do a joint order.

Let's get in touch once book 4 is out!
Mar. 2nd, 2012 08:29 pm (UTC)
I have a book reader crammed with the same things! :) Thank you for including me in that company!

I would suggest you start with Black Ships. If you like Andre Norton and Marion Zimmer Bradley, it's a similar style. It retells the Aeneid the same way Mists of Avalon retells the Arthurian legend. So start with that! And I'd love to hear what you think of it.
Mar. 10th, 2012 09:12 am (UTC)
Black Ships ahoy then!
Mar. 2nd, 2012 04:43 pm (UTC)
Anything StarGate related I'll be reading, so that takes Moebius Squared and of course everyone of the StarGate Atlantis Legacy Series!
Mar. 2nd, 2012 08:29 pm (UTC)
Yay! Thank you for reading!
Mar. 2nd, 2012 05:55 pm (UTC)
I am incredibly excited for Lost Things - that one is top of my list.

I'll take a look at Moebius Squared, but haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy it.
Mar. 2nd, 2012 08:30 pm (UTC)
I'm really excited about Lost Things too. I love writing with Melissa. I was a fan of hers years before I met her, and I've learned an amazing amount working with her.

I'm most looking forward to "The General's Mistress". (Can't wait!) What you've posted about "Lost Things" sounds very interesting so I'll also be picking that up.

Hopefully these will be available as eBooks in Canada, but if not I'll still track them down in print.

I finally downloaded "The Ravens of Falkenau" audiobook last weekend and really enjoyed it :) Are there any plans to release audiobooks for "Hands of Isis" or "Stealing Fire"?
Mar. 2nd, 2012 08:43 pm (UTC)
I think they will be ebooks in Canada? I'm so glad you're looking forward to them. I can't wait!

I'm so happy you liked the audiobook. I think Arika did a great job with it, and she's a very sweet person. I'm hoping that there will be an audiobook for Hand of Isis in the next months. And I hope Arika will agree to do it if there is!

I'd love to buy all your books and immerse myself in everything(except maybe the SGA stuff...not enough of a fan to want to read those)'cept my husband seems to resent my reading habit of sticking my nose in book(his words) and then I don't surface until it's done...plus I have my fanfic opus that has been hanging over me for far too long that I really need to finish. So I'll be limiting myself to the one that interests me the most....Moebius Squared.

I think you'll enjoy Moebius Squared. We really had a blast with it! (And if you like the original team too you should check out Amy Griswold's Heart's Desire when it comes out early in the summer. It's set in season three, and I could not stop laughing at some points!)
Mar. 3rd, 2012 12:48 am (UTC)
The Legacy Series :) I am a huge Teyla fan so i cant wait fot The Avengers :)
Mar. 3rd, 2012 12:39 pm (UTC)
The Avengers is definitely Teyla's book! In the beginning we split up the four middle books of the series between the team, and since I love Teyla I got her book, The Avengers. And how can you go wrong with Teyla and Todd?

As to which I'm looking forward to more, for me it's a toss-up between Lost Things and The General's Mistress. The media-tie in books just don't do much for me - there's not much point in reading them when the original shows didn't interest me. We haven't had a TV in 5 years, and really haven't missed it. I'd rather read books - TV and movies always make me feel like someone is trying to manipulate me into seeing the characters just so, instead of having a personal experience of them the way you can with a book.

I'm on the fence about ebooks vs. paper. We're desperately short of bookshelf space, which makes ebooks attractive. But only as long as they're available in non-DRM formats. I keep books, and I'm not going to risk losing half my library because the vendor which manages the DRM goes belly-up, or isn't willing to fix it so I can read on the device I might buy six months from now.

I hope you enjoy both Lost Things and The General's Mistress. I love them both, though perhaps The General's Mistress more, as I've lived with that story for twenty years.

I hear you about the format issue. I don't want a Betamax problem!
Mar. 3rd, 2012 02:20 am (UTC)
I'm actually most excited to get to Black Ships. I'll probably start reading it in the next week or so. I'm also excited for anything SGA-related. That's how I found you in the first place. :o)

Also - ebooks all the way! I don't have the storage space for any more dead tree editions.
Mar. 3rd, 2012 02:09 pm (UTC)
Oh I hope you enjoy Black Ships! If you like the way I write Teyla, I expect you'll like Black Ships. And I'd love to hear what you think of it!
Mar. 3rd, 2012 10:51 am (UTC)
Will definitely be reading the Legacy books - you have me well hooked on those and I can't wait to see where it all goes. Will be buying them as e-books as it's the only way i can afford them, get them so much sooner than waiting for the print versions, and I find it easier to read on the kindle now my sight isn't quite as good as it used to be.
Am reading 'Ravens of Falkenau' to my daughter (she has learning difficulties and loves me to read to her in bed - we've been through all the Harry Potter books as well as most of Mauve Binchy and anything else that is around!)
Reading 'Ravens of Falkenau has certainly got me interested in reading some of your other books!
Mar. 3rd, 2012 12:47 pm (UTC)
You've actually made me cry. My daughter also has learning difficulties, and one of the stories in The Ravens of Falkenau, How the Lady of Cats Came to Nagada, was a story for her, told to her at bedtime curled up under the blankets so they make a little cave. She loves cats and has always had devoted cat friends, and so the story of how cats came to live with people was for her. I'm so glad that the stories appeal to your daughter as well. *snif* Nothing could please me more than this, like taking your hand across the miles.

You might want to try Black Ships next. Hand of Isis has more sex and violence, but Black Ships is very mild in that department, and it's the story of a young slave girl who is born with the gift of an oracle and how she uses it to save her people.

I´m waiting for your Stargate-related books, but your skills as an author has made me curious to read more from you!
Mar. 3rd, 2012 02:15 pm (UTC)
Yay! That is a thing I love to hear! :)

Since you're a Stargate fan, you might try Lost Things first. It's also a team adventure with the same kind of tightly knit group of heroes. That's one thing I love about Stargate, and I think we captured that feeling in Lost Things.
