Steel Blues and The Marshal's Lover

A reader asks, "What are you working on now?"

Right now I'm working on two things. First is Steel Blues, a sequel to Lost Things, my thriller with Melissa Scott which is coming out this summer. It's 1931, and a coast to coast air race is the setting for mayhem with a runaway Russian countess, a cursed necklace, and the decade-old unsolved murders of a serial killer. I'm getting to write one of my favorite places, New Orleans, and a character I've been dying to write. This is my Countess -- Claudia Black models for Sue Wong.

I'm also working on rewrites to The Marshal's Lover, the third book in the Wars of Revolution series -- in which Elza returns in dreams to a tomb beneath the harbor of Alexandria, as a wandering ka is supposed to!

Great picture of Claudia. So does this mean that one of Claudia's characters is your inspiration for the Countess? Which one?

Oh definitely more Vala than Aeryn! :) The Countess is trouble on two feet, and of course she has an agenda of her own. Her psychic gift is that she can hear the dead, which is both a blessing and a curse.

LOL...yeah kinda figured it was Vala...don't know Aeryn's persona that well(not a Farscape fan), but I have the impression that she really wasn't the "scam artist" type Vala was. Of course, now that I know you're using Claudia in these clothes as inspiration I'll be automatically seeing Claudia in my head as I'm reading.

I definitely see her in my head when I'm writing the Countess! :) She doesn't appear until the second book, Steel Blues, where she's initially an antagonist. But by the end of the book she's staying with the team, and she's back in the third book, Silver Bullet.
