The Avengers?

A reader asks, "Do you have any idea when The Avengers (book four of the Legacy series) will be out? I'm waiting and waiting."

The Avengers is still at MGM for approval! My latest word is that they swear they will be done by April 26. If so, it will be about six weeks after that for the book to come out -- the actual production takes about six weeks. So my best guess, provided it is indeed back on April 26, is around June 15. As you know, Stargate belongs to MGM, not to me or to Fandemonium, so we have to do things at MGM's convenience. I'm sorry for the delay -- and I can't wait for the book to come out either!

I'm sorry! As soon as we get it back from MGM we can turn it around in six weeks, but we have to get it back first.

MGM really seems to not care about their fans keeping us all on hold like this! Sooo frustrating!

writing / font
Hi, will the writing / font in the new book be larger like it used to be ?? as the writing / font in Allegiance book was smaller and harder to read !!??

Re: writing / font
I'm afraid I don't know. I'm sorry! That's completely a decision about font and length -- The Avengers is a little shorter than Allegiance, and it may be that a smaller font was used to keep the page count down, and hence the price!

Re: Front cover
The cover is done by Fandemonium. I haven't seen it yet, but I understand it's going to be Teyla and Sam. Our editor has done a good job of making sure that each character gets to "star" on the cover to their own book -- The Lost is John, Allegiance is Ronon, The Avengers is Teyla, and Secrets is Rodney. So it will definitely be Teyla!

When you say production will take about 6 weeks... I'm assuming that's for print books. Does this mean that those of us who have their finger poised to press BUY on their Kindles will be able to get our sticky mitts on the e-book a bit sooner than that?

Well, there's a bit more to it than that! When the book comes back from MGM on April 26, here's what happens:

I make the changes MGM wants -- this may take a couple of days or a couple of weeks depending on what they are.

The book goes back to MGM for them to approve and be sure I've done it. They grant final approval.

The book goes to a copy editor who will handle all the last minute typos, extra spaces, capitalization, misspelling, and the rest.

From the copy editor's work a final layout is done, called the galleys.

I go over the galleys to make sure there are no errors, usually things like alien names misspelled or the like that a copyeditor won't catch.

The galleys go to formatting, which formats them for various kinds of ebooks and for the printer.

Then they go two different ways, to the guy who gets the ebooks up for sale and makes sure the downloads work, and who gets the formats up on different platforms, and to the printer, who physically prints from the galleys.

SO! It's about six weeks from the time MGM sends them back until all this is done. And that's super fast!

Woo, had forgotten how very many stages and players there are in the production of a book! And yours is extra-complex because of having to get approvals from MGM for everything.
There's nothing for it, I will just have to re-read the first three Legacy books, but slowly this time. If I can eke out each novel to last two weeks (IF), that should be just about perfect...

Many stages! :) And Fandemonium is super fast as publishers go. Six weeks from approval to release is INSANE!
