John and Rodney Friendship

A reader asked for a moment from The Furies showing John and Rodney's friendship, and I had to hunt for something that wasn't too plot spoilery. But this is from near the beginning, in which Quicksilver finds a recording he's not supposed to find!

The screen brightened, filled with a human shape: a man sitting against the wall of a holding cell, his eyes closed, head tipped back against the cell’s wall. The camera zoomed in, focusing on the face, shifting slightly to get the clearest view. The man opened his eyes as though he’d heard something, stared into the camera as though he sensed its presence: a dark-haired man, ordinary enough, a few days’ growth of beard on his chin, hazel eyes that stared defiance.

Quicksilver closed his own eyes, his stomach roiling as though he were in freefall. He knew the man — knew him with a certainty he had not felt since before he was captured, could put a name to him, a human name. John Sheppard — Consort of Atlantis, indeed, commander of the Lanteans; the man who had led the attack on the hive, who had tried to capture him. Tried to rescue him…

Tried to answer his message. The stranger had said Sheppard had been taken on Gaffen. And that meant that his own message had been received, and answered: Sheppard had come for him — had come for McKay, and he was McKay in truth. And, unwittingly, he’d led Sheppard into a trap.

His heart was racing, painful in his chest. He was Rodney McKay, except he’d been turned into a Wraith — but that wasn’t the important thing right now. Atlantis knew that, Sheppard knew that, and they’d come for him anyway. Except Sheppard had been taken prisoner.

“All right,” he whispered. “All right. Think.”

The Furies
You can get it for sure at fandemonium books online, but it hasn't been released yet and I don't think preorder is available.

Not sure if you're a comic book fan, so I offer my apologies if the follow explanatory setup is in anyway redundant or as a result condescending. If you haven't read it and one day plan to, then please stop here so you won't be spoiled.

...

...

There's a comic by Grant Morrison called Fantastic Four: 1234 where by the climax of the story the bad guy has invented a reality warping machine and all-but wiped out the Four. When resident super-genius Reed Richards show up, the heavy taunts him by asking what has Reed been doing during all this. Reed simply replies, "Well, Victor, I've been thinking."

That last line up there gives me the same giggly chills as Morrison's. Let the bad guys do what they want, have every advantage, but it won't be enough when McKay starts thinking. Nice!

He's figured it out! But oh boy now what? He is in so, so, so much trouble. And now he's gotten John captured too!

Not yet! I just talked to the webcoder and he's doing the SG-1 novel that's also due for release, Oceans of Dust. He doesn't have The Furies in hand yet. Soon. Soon. Soon.

Do you think if I volunteered to send the Webcoder a piece of the yummy not from a box chocolate cake (with homemade chocolate frosting) that we just made, he could be bribed, er...., persuaded to do The Furies first and THEN Oceans? ;) lol.

Money, chocolate, the unending adoration of SGA fans…maybe even a spiffy new computer?

Chocolate! That's what would work for me! :)

Oceans is up now! But since as of yesterday he didn't have The Furies in hand, I doubt bribes would work. Or I'd be sending chocolate myself! :)

Next time I'll make sure to take a picture for proof. And it was five piggies because by 10am, neighbor-girl piggy had come to join the fun and I figured what that, hey, they sent her here to play, they gets no say if I feed her chocolate cake before, noon, right? HA!

Hah! Very true! OMG the snacking every five minutes! I realize she's on a growth spurt, but I think she's been eating all day. And ok, peanut butter and crackers aren't terrible snacks, but today I just can't keep her fed! She's gone up three shoe sizes this year, from a 12 to a 2!

Well, that just ratchets up the tension right there in that shivery, look-out-between-your-fingers way as you hope everything turn out. C'mon, book! I've got some time in between summer and fall semesters where I have no classes. Momma needs a new book to read!

Oh good! I'm glad that's tense! Rodney is in so very much trouble! Just tons of trouble!

Really can't wait for this book to come out now!
When will the paperback version be available?

The paperback is supposed to be available on June 28. That's the official release date. The ebook may go up for sale a little sooner, since there's no reason to hold it waiting on the printer.

It's gone to Amazon! It will be up for sale as soon as they do the web update, so I would guess in the next couple of days! I just checked and not yet, but I don't think it usually takes them more than a couple of days to update the website.
