Wildly Curious

So, I'm wildly curious -- any thoughts on The General's Mistress from those who won copies (or who have otherwise acquired them through your own channels)?

Caution -- there may be spoilers in comments!

SPOILERS ETC. Sorry!

I loved it! The first R-rated scene between Moreau and Elza was amazing. He's still a git though ... oh he was so mean! Did Elza really send the letters or did something else happen, something more supernatural?

I like Elza, she's everything she can be, a brave warrior, an amazing oracle and a passable actress. My inner word nazi wanted to take all the e's off of Charmiane though!

It's so good to have a touch of the numinous and I just love her inner convo with Michael, he's my favourite character for another reason now - he has a sense of humour. But it was all the little nods to other stories and books in the series that I enjoyed, mentions of characters much loved and it's awesome that mythology is now hip.

Hand of Isis is still my favourite book but this has taken second place; the imagery is so vivid and I'd be lying if I didn't enjoy the sex scenes.

The final scene though with the church, oh it makes me want the next book NOW. Can we have a taste of The Emperor's Companion?

Oh yay! You are the very first reader! :)

The first R-rated scene between Moreau and Elza was amazing.

Hee! Move over, Fifty Shades of Grey?

He is a git though. But I think, though Elza doesn't, that he did love her. And he knew she would never love him, even if he didn't understand why. Yes, she really sent the letters. And I didn't make that up! It's straight out of the memoir, along with every word of her letter to Michel! It all really happened.

I'm glad you like Elza. So glad. She's still very young and clueless in this book. She doesn't really understand or believe, and can't even put into words the things that she knows instinctively. She's been raised without a frame for understanding herself, if that makes sense?

I love Michael. And of course he remembers everything, everything she doesn't. And no, he can't let her go, even when she asks, because he's right that there is no time. She has to go forward. And I think she's glad she did.

Heh! I'm happy you like the sex scenes! I enjoy writing them. (There were two more, but they were cut for space.) But I think I left the best ones!

The next book! Ok -- I will hunt up a scene for you and put it up in the next couple of days! I'm so glad you want it.

What did you think of Napoleon?

He's different to how he's usually portrayed but you can tell he's an old soul :D

It's interesting -- the order of publication isn't at all the order they were written. Those scenes were written before the scenes in Hand of Isis with Charmian and Caesar.

This is so much better than 50 Shades!

Any chance you can let us in one the sex scenes that were cut then?

Thank you! I'd be happy with a tenth as popular! :)

Sure, I can do that. There's one with Victor that I liked but it really didn't give us any new information about either Victor or Elza, so I cut it when I needed space. My final judgment call was whether there was anything new in it, and actually no, we didn't learn anything we didn't know.

He may have not been the wider/deeper soul she was looking for, but that didn't mean he didn't love her in his own way. And I think THAT is why he was so enraged on getting the letter, even though the letter itself implied Elza had feelings for Michel but they hadn't done anything physical. Victor may or may not have admitted that to himself, but I think when he asked her if she loved him, he wanted her to answer yes and have it be true. Elza never did get that. In a way, she'd boxed him in, thinking he was only about ambition and power.

I think you're right that Victor did love her and that's why he was so angry. I don't think Elza really gets at this point that this is why, but I think he did love her and it became clear that she didn't love him. Therese told her so, but because it came from Therese, Elza didn't believe it even when it was true.

Mine just arrived today, to great celebration! I can't officially start it until I've finished my current book (which is due back at the library), but I cheated by just reading the first page, and I LOVE it - such a perfect opening. :)

I am LOVING it so far. :D

I'm at work so I can't go into details, but it is so amazing! :D

I love Elza so much and I love the nods at the other books. :D

I'm so glad! I know you can't talk about details at work, definitely NSFW! But it delights me that you like Elza. How far have you gotten?

Oh my! You have been making tracks! :)

I'm absolutely happy that you like Elza. She's kind of...unique.

She is indeed ... unique, but I think that's what makes her such an interesting character.

Honestly, that's one of things that I love about your Numinous World -- even when the souls are in different times, they are completely unique to who they are in their surroundings. Yes, they have stuff from the past, but they still manage to be individual people in every character you write.

...

I'm not sure that made as much sense in text as it made in my head. :/

I'm happy that works -- I hope that readers can see how they're the same and how they're different, how they're shaped by their world and their circumstances, even though the core is the same. And that you can see Gull and Charmian and Lydias in her, but she's not them. She's yet another layer. If that makes sense?

I actually finished it last night, but I want to read it again before I trust myself to make any coherent comments. Lots of love, though. Lots and lots of love. ♥
