Elza and Charmian

A couple of people have commented reading The General's Mistress about the exchange of letters between Elza and Michel when they're talking about the role she's playing in the play, the Handmaiden in Cleopatra.

What did you guys think of that? How much of Agrippa do you think Michel remembers?

When Lucia met him, Agrippa was so sad. Also, if Michel remembers Agrippa, why wouldn't he also remember Hephaistion and Aeneas? All to say, despite his knowledge of himself, I'm rather hoping he doesn't remember too much of any of the others. Any more than Elza does, at the end of The General's Mistress.

I think Michel remembers some. I think he hasn't seen Cleopatra because it upsets him, and he's trying to figure out why. It disturbs him, thinking of her in the play, pretending to die of poison. It's almost a Dead Again moment, if you remember that movie? She's much less upset about it than he is. It doesn't bother her to pretend to die of snakebite, not nearly as much as it bothers him.

Hi, and Happy New Year!
No, I haven't seen Dead Again, but, from reading the Wiki entry, it looks like it could be a Numinous World movie! :-)

It's a fun movie. The thing that's similar, though, is that Margaret, who was the one killed, isn't hung up about it in the next life, but Roman, who was tried for the murder, is. Elza's not particularly squicked by Charmian's end, but Michel is!
