Really, REALLY close between her and Stasi, but Alma gets it. I love strong female characters, with a pilot bonus, and she just makes me cheer. She doesn't let anything get her down or, if she does, she doesn't let herself wallow. She's a problem-solver. Gotta love her.

But Stasi is definitely a strong number two. ;D

Alma is definitely a problem solver, and she's tough. She's the center, the one who holds everything together!

Indeed! She's a very nice role model. ;D

And I hope you don't mind, but I stole the idea of a character poll for my own LJ. ;D

I can't choose between Mitch and Stasi! You can't make me!

Poor Henry, gets no love. I am quite fond of him, to be honest.

I had the feeling they'd be your two favorites! :)

I picked Stasi because she reminds me of an old favourite of mine in the best way (Amanda from Highlander), but I could have picked Alma as well, I love them both dearly.

You know, poor Henry, he's never going to win in such a poll, but he's my surprise!soft spot. Not least because I'm relieved he hasn't yet ended up as a vilified traitor character because he's the commercial success, which would have been the case in many noirs. Except L.A. Confidential, and clearly Henry is Jack Vincennes.:)

That's what I was thinking, re: Henry! But it's telling that we still feel bad that he won't at least be a contender. So many great characters in this series! :D

I'm so glad you liked Stasi, and that the book really grabbed you. Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I've read it about four times now, and it means a great deal, coming from you.

There's definitely a touch of the screwball comedy, yes. Carole Lombard played by Claudia Black! :D

&Lewis;

I love them all and Alma especially is a very, very close second, but there's just something about Lewis. :)

Lewis is dear. He's just a darling, considerate, nice guy. With a lethal edge. And that's a winning combination! :)

I had a hard time between Alma and Stasi, but Stasi just gets it for being flippant and funny and humourous and scandalous. She adds spice to any scene she's in.

Stasi is a lot of fun to write for just those reasons. She's always got some askew way of looking at things!

I love all of them, but since I had to pick one, is it any surprise I picked Mitch? I love how genuine he is. :) He's an all around good guy and what's not to like about that?

I had a feeling you'd pick Mitch! Nope, no surprises there! :)

Jerry, like that's a surprise from me :-) He hits all my buttons. I also am quite fond of Henry, and Gil, who isn't on the list. Plus I want more of Iskinder. Of the other main characters, I love all of them, but if I had to pick, I would probably say Alma.

I knew you'd say Jerry! :)

Gil does manage to have quite a lot to say for a guy who's dead at the beginning of the first book, doesn't he? I'll put Iskinder up on the list when Silver Bullet comes out, since most people haven't met him yet, just seen the tiny place in Lost Things where he's mentioned.

Thank you! Thank you so much! I'm happy you liked it. I love writing Stasi. She's so much fun. And it's nice to write her and Alma not as rivals. I think they get along very well once they're over the initial meeting.

You can see your house! :) One of the fun things in Steel Blues is writing so many real places. We hope we got them right. I had an event once at that house in Coconut Grove -- peacocks and all!
