Steel Blues

So -- Steel Blues! Who's read it? Thoughts?

Also, if you like my Stargate books but haven't tried The Order of the Air series, here's your chance to win a copy of Lost Things, the first book in the series! You can still enter for the giveaway on Goodreads.

Just finished it this morning, absolutely loved it! You had my heart racing the whole time - would they make it?!

I'm so glad! Melissa wrote the final race sequence, and I love it.

The point that really had me worrying was whether it would turn out that Mitch had really had some kind of psychotic break in that time period after the war. The circumstantial evidence was very well laid out to raise doubts. And if it was, how would they handle it? I'm glad it didn't turn out that way, but there were points near the end where I was seriously considering the possibility.

Mitch had pretty serious PTSD, and he really doesn't remember what he did that year. He really did think that he might be the Axeman. I'm glad you as the reader seriously considered the possibility. That worked then!

What did you think of Mitch and his arc in general?

I have sort of mixed feelings. I enjoyed Steel Blues, and am definitely looking forward to the next book, but it didn't knock my socks off the way Lost Things did. I think that may be a combination of things - higher expectations because I loved the first book so much, and the fact that I like Louis better as a character than Mitch.

I did find myself feeling they all had moments where they really just weren't talking to each other about important stuff as much as in the first book, and wondering why.

I enjoyed even more than Lost Things! The air race was great fun. I figured out what they might do to make up time pretty early, mainly because I was caught by their navigating by landmarks in the early sections (and maybe because I work at a mapping software company so I was picturing the geography...).

I'm glad you did! Though I love them both, I think Steel Blues is a little better than Lost Things. We were finding our stride.

So you knew what Alma's plan would be? Cool. Dangerous -- but it worked! :)
