September Update

It's a beautiful, clear morning after a stormy night, an appropriate start to September. As always, I'm terribly busy.

The Emperor's Agent just came out in paperback, and I'm so pleased with it. I think it's my favorite book so far, but that may be because it's newest! Still, I think the last two chapters are the best thing I've ever written, absolutely my best work. I hope you enjoy it too!

We still do not know for certain about future Stargate books. We've turned in an outline for Stargate Atlantis Legacy book seven, but I expect it to be a couple of months before we know whether or not we are proceeding. Not only does it depend on the final resolution of the licensing agreement between Fandemonium and MGM, but MGM must approve everything in the outline. They're very serious about this process. Everything we write is vetted by MGM at least twice, and sometimes four or five times. So if we get the green light, I don't expect to start working on it before December. Still, Amy and I are very pleased with the outline, and I think it will be a great story!

I have two new books coming out in November. The first is Cythera, an erotic science fiction novel from Supposed Crimes, which will be out in ebook and paper on November 1. When a galactic peace mission goes awry, the fate of the Nine Worlds rests in the hands of Cythera, a sacred courtesan, Athain Kinslayer, a captain in the Calpurnian navy, and a young desert nomad named Hereu whose marriage is supposed to bring peace. What's a good way to explain it? If you crossed Kushiel's Dart with Darkover? Something like that. :)

On November 15 Melissa and I have Silver Bullet, the third Order of the Air book. I love Silver Bullet so much. I think it's even more fun than the first two, and I got to stretch as a writer in some interesting ways with Alma and especially with Mitch. I'm very proud of how it came out. It's a little bit longer than the first two, about 20,000 words, but since it's small press we don't have to cut it for length! So you get the whole book!

Right now we're working on Wind Raker, the fourth Order of the Air book. It will be out sometime next year. Jerry has a dig in Hawaii, and our guys are testing a sea plane. Only this dig, which was supposed to be a vanity dig, has much darker forces moving behind it, and Jerry will be glad that his friends are there to back him up. Yes, Jerry will finally have another relationship -- but is his lover one more pawn of an enemy too strong to fight?

Beyond that, I think I'm going to work on a sequel to Cythera. I've got a pretty good idea of where it should go, so I'm planning to work on that this fall.

The third Elza book, The Marshal's Lover, is ready for first edits. I'm anticipating it will be out next summer.

Also, I'm doing research and very preliminary sketching on another book set in the age of Alexander, this time with Berenice and Thais as the main characters. Lydias may make an appearance, but he's not central since this is their story. Tentatively, I'm calling that project Sacred Queen. I may work on it some in the coming months.

Anyway, that's what's up with me! Any questions? Comments?

November sounds like it's going to be a wonderful month (except God knows when I'm going to find time to read - I'm teaching at a conference Veteran's Day weekend, and running an SCA event the weekend before Thanksgiving). Maybe the books will be a reward for after I live through the event....

You must really love those Stargate characters to keep writing them, given how many hoops you have to jump through. Wow.

Wow, that is a busy month for you!

I think you'll really like Cythera.

I do love the Stargate characters. I hope this book happens!

No news on Lifeboat yet! I hope that it will work out, but sometimes it takes a while!

Is *The Emperor's Agent* available at Barnes and Noble yet?

Ah, doesn't seem to be in their stores (not the store I stopped at), unlike The General's Mistress, but they're shipping me a copy.

Yeah, I don't think they have it in stock, but they do seem good about ordering it. I hope you enjoy it!

It was at my door when I got home last night. Read it, loved it. Need more sleep tonight. :-)

There might be a Legacy #7?! I need a shooting star to wish upon RIGHT NOW! Want! ;)

I saw mentioned on an Amazon review that there was supposed to be more to John & Teyla's relationship in the books, but MGM cut these bits out (for some crazy reason). I don't suppose these bits still exist somewhere, and might eventually find their way onto the net? I loved that John and Teyla finally came together, even if it was off screen, but I was disappointed that we didn't see more in the books. I guess now I know why, and should not be surprised. I guess MGM was fine with Rodney and Jennifer, but the pairing fans really wanted? Nahhh, let's cut that.

This is getting too long, so let me just finish by saying you and the other authors did an AMAZING job on Legacy, and I hope you're allowed to continue. I am STILL not ready to say goodbye to my team.

There indeed might be a Legacy #7! We're waiting to hear from MGM. I'm so delighted you've enjoyed the series so far. We've certainly enjoyed writing it!

Let's just say there are some stories out there that fit nicely into the cuts, but obviously those aren't written under my pro name! ;)
