Stargate book covers

A reader asks, "How do publishers create the covers? Do the actors get photographed as the photo or they have have a million photos that have been taken in the past? My bet is that they combine photos taken in the past."

They have a library of photos from the show that they're allowed to use. All of the pictures in the library have been approved by MGM, and so they photoshop and manipulate the library photos and combine them with appropriate background shots, like the one of Atlantis flying on the cover of Inheritors. Fandemonium's cover artist is Lindsay Allen, and I really like her work!

I've always wondered how that was done!

I've always designed my own novel covers, since I do photography as a hobby, but I'd be curious to know how it's done for regular novels also.

Different publishers do it differently, and do it differently for each book. For example, the Order of the Air covers are original paintings commissioned from Bob Eggleton. They're absolutely unique and lovely! The General's Mistress cover from Simon & Schuster is a photoshop of two 19th century paintings. I had two sets of covers for Black Ships and Hand of Isis, the first ones digital manips from their artist in New York, and the second ones are original paintings by John Jude Palencar.

Can you imagine the wigs involved for poor Amanda if she had to pose for new Stargate covers? ;D

Where can I order?
Where can I pre-order the book? So far there is no information at either Amazon or Stargatenovels.com.

Re: Where can I order?
The preorder for the paper copies should be up on Thursday, which is when the ebook will be available!
