Next Legacy book?

A reader asks, "When is the next Legacy book coming out? I can't believe you left us on another cliff hanger!"

The next Legacy book, tentatively titled The Third Path, will be by me and Melissa. We've turned in our full outline to MGM, so we're waiting for approval on the outline to get started. Once we get that, it will take us about six months to write the book. So I would guess it will be the end of the spring/beginning of the summer next year. I'm hoping they'll like the outline. I think it's really exciting and fun!

I have to say, I really do love the Legacy books. They really convey the feel of the show in a way that feels like a true revival, but you're willing/able to do things the actual show might balk at. That leads to more interesting stories and opens the door wide for all kinds of things (the whole rebuilding Sateda thing has been amazing, but not something I could see the show spending time to do right. It would've been "That episode where we reveal they've been rebuilding off-camera and, oh, it's rebuilt now.")

Thank you so much! I love the opportunity to do that, to explore all the corners we never saw around in the show.

Oh, I trust you it will be! I'm thrilled by what you'll do- whatever it will be- and I'll count the months untill we'll get to know what happened to Elizabeth and everything else and.. and... and everything! Because they are amazing, the stories, but the imaginery and the way the pictures are like drawn for us readers... thanks for the past work, and good luck for things to come!

Thank you! I think The Third Path will be fun.

I'm sure it will be, for all of us!
BTW, when I laughed like a maniac -my mother's words -when Parrish suggested the name Tesla instead of Newton for Rodney's cat, being that Jonathan Young did play a very charming and handsome version of Tesla... ;)

I know! All three of us are huge Sanctuary fans! (I can't even tell you how many reams of fanfic I've written for Sanctuary, some of which won awards.) So that was our little Easter egg for fellow Sanctuary fans! We just couldn't resist.

By the way, Tesla is a major character in our book Silver Bullet. He is at great pains to explain at one point that he's not a vampire. (I'm not sure we believe him!) And there is one point in there where I'm sure you'd scream because it's so Sanctuary Tesla! :) You should check out Silver Bullet.

I will! And.... sanctuary fanfic? I have to read them! Any username or specifi site I should check out?
(And if there's a Tesla that's so Sanctuary Tesla, yes, I think I'll definitely check Silver Bullet out!)

Yes, I have Sanctuary fanfic. Private Message me if you want to know where it is. I have to keep my pro identity separate online!

I hope you enjoy Silver Bullet! Tesla was so much fun at book length! :)

I loved Tesla in Sanctuary. I always have to laugh when I think about about French-Canadian Rock and Roll!! He had style.

He did. He had amazing style. It was so much fun to write Tesla at book length in Silver Bullet. He did come out a very Sanctuary Tesla!

I just read that bit about Tesla and LOVED it!!! I had to come online to confirm that it was a Sanctuary reference. Tesla is definitely my favourite Sanctuary character! I will check out Silver Bullet. I'd also like to read your fanfics. How do I PM you? I'm sooo useless on LJ!

How did the cat land up being named Newton. I thought Schrödinger was so much better. It is very clever. And I know Sam had a cat named Schrödinger but it would actually fit that Rodney copied her if he had known and if he hadn't it is still a scientist's name.

I am really enjoying the Legacy series. I was a alot upset with Ronon though. He out of all of them should have had Rodney's back precisely because he was compromised by the Wraith. Instead he STOLE the weapon and then just stood there when people were questioning Rodney's loyalty. Grrrr!!

That bit with Ember and Radek was awesome! Were William and Radek involved when they were at Uni? The history there seems bigger than a disagreement between friend.

My favourite part by far was in Secrets when Rodney goes to Teyla's room after he breaks up with Jennifer. That whole bit when he realises Teyla and Sheppard are together til the end of the chapter was the best. I literally LOLed like 4 times!

Sorry this is a bit disjointed but I've read 1 -6 basically nonstop this last week so everything is mushed together.

Gonna finish Inheritors right now and start Unascended even though it is 1AM.

Thank you so much! Your comment really makes my day!

To PM me go into my profile and click "send a message" at the top.

You know, I can't remember how we wound up with Newton! There were three of us discussing names, and I think we said, "Well, it can't be Tesla, so..."

I'm so glad you're enjoying Legacy! We had so much fun writing it, and it's wonderful to know people enjoy it. Yes, William and Radek were together at university. We were more clear about that originally, but MGM made us take it out.

I love that scene. That's my scene and it made me smile so much writing it. I love writing the friendship between Teyla and Rodney, something I think we never see enough of.

I hope you enjoy Unascended!

Love the new title, just wondering what made you change it from endless?

Melissa, Amy and I were all at Shore Leave (the con we went to three weeks ago) and so was our editor, Sally. We had this running joke about "book eight of a six book series" and that it was Endless because this series is Endless, and it just seemed an unfortunate title. Also originally it was to play off Unending, the last episode of SG-1, but as we've gone along that didn't really work, because at this point the book doesn't really have much to do with that. It's more about the third path in several different ways, about finding a way between the absolutes. Our society right now (and this wasn't the case when you and I were kids, not nearly as much) wants to see everything in black and white. You're right or you're wrong. You're good or you're bad. One person wins or another does. No compromise -- compromise is a dirty word. No moderation. No middle ground. No partial truths. No gray areas.

Elizabeth's strength has always been finding those gray areas. She finds middle ground, ways to compromise, solutions that weren't on the table. Right now there's so much pressure to look at the world in binaries, but there's always a third path. There's always another solution. But we have to look for it. We have to put aside both binaries and see what else is out there. That's really what this book is about. Elizabeth can solve the unsolvable problem because she's not limited to one of two points of view.

Ah yeah, that fits much better. I love the idea as well, finding a way between Pegasus humans, wraith and the Tau'ri.

I'm glad you like it. I think that's something we need to look at in real life too -- what are the third paths? What are the solutions that aren't to either extreme? I think Elizabeth can find a way between the parties -- and she'll have to in order to solve their problem with the Vanir.
